Troy Baker Recites NFT Announcement Was “A Bit Antiagonistic”

Update:Troy Baker, who has been promoting voice NFTs again today, took to Twitter and acknowledged that the question “hate/create?” might have been “a bit antagonistic”.

The voice actor’s earlier tweets stirred up quite the reaction online — see below for more details.

Is anyone else getting Notting Hill vibes from that “I’m just a storyteller out here trying to tell my story” line? Only us? We continue the conversation below.

Original Story:Troy Baker, the voice actor extraordinaire, was featured in almost all video games, from Bloodrayne, Bioshock, Borderlands, Batman to Batman. He has now announced a partnership to Voiceverse NFT.

Yes, he is undoubtedly the most well-known voice actor in video games. Everything() has jumped on to the non-fungible bandwagon as evident by his appropriately vague announcement on TwitterThis asks readers to decide if they will “hate” or create.

Here’s the complete text of the tweet

I’m partnering with @VoiceverseNFT to explore ways where together we might bring new tools to new creators to make new things, and allow everyone a chance to own & invest in the IP’s they create.
Each person has a story.
You can also hate.
You can also create.
What’ll it be?

What’s the reaction? The reaction? Here are some of the more family-friendly responses from gamers to the “voice of video games”:

Details are vague about what exactly this means and how Baker will be involved with voice non-fungible tokens, but the company he’s partnering with — Voiceverse NFT — explains its approach to them and their benefits thusly in a pinned Twitter thread:

Hello everyone! Here are the reasons Voice NFTs differ from just owning jpegs.
Voice NFTs are a great tool for creating a wonderful community. These are not possible to right-click.

Voice NFTs grant unlimited, perpetual access the underlying AI voice that is owned by the NFT. You can create any type of voice content with a Voice NFT.

Imagine being able make audiobooks, Youtube videos or e-learning lectures in your own voice. All of this without having to worry about additional legal work. This allows those with limited resources to have easier access to professional-grade voices.

Voice NFTs are a new way to communicate with and build your persona in metaverse realms. You can appear as anyone in the metaverse and you can now sound like the Voice NFT that you own.

Imagine being able talk in the voice and accent of the character you play in a multiplayer game. Imagine the next level of immersive gaming!

We are aware of the environmental impact of NFTs. We are working hard for Voice NFTs to be moved to a more environmentally-friendly mainnet such as Polygon and Solana. Proof of Work→ Proof of Stake

Voice NFTs pay royalties for the original voice actor who helped to build the NFT. The Voice NFT value can rise, which means that the voice actor will also benefit from the higher value. We keep the human in the loop.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a SaaS product or a NFT. We won’t be able create a truly decentralized solution for Web3. The key is for YOU to own the IP and have it proven by the public, not us.

We don’t claim Voice NFT to be the perfect-child of the NFT family. We acknowledge some of its shortcomings, but we ask you to give it a chance. Also, look at the utility and value it can bring to creators and gamer communities.

Given the environmental impacts of NFTs as well as the often questionable utility, the online reaction is predictable. Baker is not the only celebrity to jump on NFTs in recent months. However, Baker has been a voice actor for so many beloved characters in video games that it is no surprise that fans are reacting strongly to this controversial move.

Big hmm. You can either hate or create. You can also spit a bit, take deep breaths, and continue on. If you can parse and explain the benefits of voice NFTs to us — preferably as you would to a young child — feel free to do so in the comments.
